About Orissa

Located in the eastern part of India (see the illustration on the left), Orissa is in the process of rapid industrialization. With a large pool of highly-skilled human resources, rich deposit of metals and minerals, and vast costal-line with deep sea, a number of companies in IT, manufacturing and shipping are setting up their bases in the state.

The state Orissa and its current geographical area came into existence on 1st April, 1936 during the last part of British rule in India. Later Orissa was recognized as a part of Indian republic after Indian independence.

Orissa has come a long way from its golden period with full of stories of warring tribes and expression of art in quite a few world-class sculptures. It has come from a conglomerate of Kongoda, Utkal, Kalinga and several other small kingdoms with an unparalleled history of global trade and commerce to being a vibrating state of Indian Nation. The current sprout of industries and external investments have brought an enviable attention to this state.

Orissa boasts to have various climatic conditions – cold in the western region, and humid costal-line. Being a tropical region, a large variety of flora and fauna are available across the state.
